About Waterford

Welcome to the Village of Waterford, NY. Located in Saratoga County and with a population of approximately 2,000 residents, it was incorporated in 1794 and is the oldest continuously incorporated village in the United States. Located at the convergence of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers, it is considered the gateway to the Erie Canal system.

The site of the village was occupied as "Half Moon Point" in the 17th century. It was then in the territory of Mahican natives. Waterford derives its name from being a "ford," or crossing, between Peebles Island and the mainland Waterford.
